Left to right: Fried Chicken and French Toast at The Marietta Local, The Georgia Burger at 1 Block Over, White Marble Farms Pork Chop at Stockyard Burgers and Bones

Life is delicious. Eat it up.

Join us for an unapologetically indulgent, belt-loosening trio of Southern fare.

This issue, we are focusing on good ole’ Southern cooking. The kind of food people write about when they visit from the North. And we’re serving up three lip-smacking, carnivorous plates. Calories be damned; we aren’t counting them today.

7:30am
Fried Chicken and French Toast
The Marietta Local
148 Roswell Street

A slight twist on a Southern staple, start your day at The Marietta Local with a heaping helping of fried chicken and french toast. Yes, it is as good as it sounds. This two-time Taste of Marietta award winner combines fried chicken, warm Granny Smith apples, and 100% pure maple syrup. Served until the doors close at 2:30.

Also try:

  • House-made donuts.

  • Mealoaf and pimento cheese sandwich.

  • Blue Devil Salad.

  • Veggie plate.

12:00 noon
The Georgian Burger
1 Block Over
25 Powder Springs Street

Sack the sack lunch and head over to the new kid on the block, 1 Block Over. Menu options range from prime rib to crab legs, but trust us on this: order the burger. Any burger. They’re char-grilled, and they are fantastic. If we must suggest one, go for The Georgian Burger – topped with bacon, BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, and onion straws. Double down on the meat if you dare. Opt for the house-made chips with a side of house-made bleu cheese dressing. And lots of extra napkins.

Also try:

  • Low country boil Tuesdays.

  • Fish fry Thursdays.

  • Sunday brunch buffet.

  • $5 Zing Zang Bloody Marys.

7:30pm
White Marble Farms Pork Chop
Stockyard Burgers and Bones
26 Mill Street

Dinner’s here, and you’re thinking swine sounds fine. And bourbon. Lucky for you, both are in abundance at Stockyard Burgers & Bones. Opened last year, this newcomer to the area has already staked its claim on the local dinner crowd. The full bar features over 40 whiskeys and bourbons, as well as eight rotating craft draught beer handles. If you’re feeling adventurous, order their Cowboy Caviar (lamb testicles). But be sure to try the spicy peach and jalapeno-glazed White Marble Farms Pork Chop, served with frites and black bean roasted corn salad. You won’t regret it.

Also try:

  • Chicarones (fancy pork rinds).

  • Mini angus beef corndogs.

  • Lamb burger.

  • Ribs (rubbed or swimming in sauce).
